Professor Simon Thurley will give a talk about Wren’s early life and career, focusing on his first architectural commission, Pembroke College Chapel which was consecrated in 1665.

Simon Thurley is a leading architecture historian, archaeologist and heritage champion who believes that our past informs and shapes our future. He has specialised on Sir Christopher Wren and previously completed a lecture on Wren’s history exploring Wren’s position within Court under King William and Queen Mary.
Simon has been Chief Executive of English Heritage between 2002 to 2015. Since 2021, he has been Chair of the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
