Summary

St Bartholomew the Less is the only parish church physically situated within a hospital. It is called ‘Less’ just to distinguish it from its larger neighbour, The Great. The Less is a chapel of ease within the Parish of Great St Bartholomew and has a close relationship with St Bartholomew’s Hospital. It has been associated with the hospital for over 800 years. The church has the oldest bell frame in the City of London. Like other churches that survived the Great Fire, the buidling fell into disrepair but was restored by George Dance the Younger who built the small but bright and vibrant interior we see today.

Although both St Bartholomew churches are intertwined together, St Bartholomew the Less has a unique identity with a vibrant and unique interior.
