Why Volunteer

Volunteering with Square Mile Churches is a unique opportunity to be part of the rich history and vibrant life of the City of London.

Whether you’re helping run events in some of the City’s most iconic buildings, supporting education and heritage projects, or assisting behind the scenes, your time makes a real difference. It’s a great way to develop new skills, meet a diverse range of people, and engage with the local community in meaningful ways. Many of our volunteers say they’ve gained as much as they’ve given — through new experiences, connections, and a deeper understanding of the area’s heritage.

Whatever your background or availability, there’s a role for you. If you’re looking to get involved in something worthwhile, learn along the way, and play a part in keeping these historic spaces active and relevant, we’d love to hear from you.

Photography project

“The opportunity to be a part of the exciting and important Wren300 Project, is a dream come true. Through my photographs of Wren’s masterpieces, I am learning more about them and the processes (both creative and practical) that brought them into being.”

Wren300 Conservation Volunteering

“Volunteering in the Wren 300 project has given me the opportunity to a hands on education in conservation practice. I have also learned so much about Wren architecture, the transformation of the city over centuries, and the importance of engaging its people today to ensure the survival of its fabric tomorrow.”
